Short Eared Owls at Parkgate

The high tide at Parkgate on the Wirral was a whopper this weekend and flooded the whole of the salt marsh. It is an amazing spectacle to witness. As the marsh floods, the small mammals cling to higher ground, reeds and even the promenade wall to escape the water, but this of course makes them vulnerable to the raptors that swoop in for the feast.

It was the closest I have ever come to watching Short Eared Owls hunt, and a memory I will cherish for a long, long time.

  1. Great captures Heather. I've only ever seen them from a distance.
